Pen Spinning
Turn any boring meeting into a secret skill-grinding session.
craftycreativeFree15 mindifficulty 2/5
Pen spinning turns the most mundane object on your desk into a fidget toy with a progression system. You learn named tricks โ ThumbAround, Sonic, Charge โ and chain them into combos. It looks like nothing until it suddenly looks like wizardry. The skill ceiling is absurdly high.
How to start
- 1Grab any pen. A slightly weighted one works best (Pilot G2 is classic).
- 2Learn the ThumbAround first โ flick the pen over your thumb with your middle finger.
- 3Practice over a bed or couch so you're not picking up a pen 200 times.
- 4Watch UPSB (Universal Pen Spinning Board) tutorials for trick names.
- 5Once you have 3-4 tricks, try linking them into a short combo.
What you'll need
- Any ballpoint pen (Pilot G2 recommended)Essential~$2

Plot twists
Ways to spice this up when the basics get boring.
- Learn to spin with your non-dominant hand. It's like starting a new save file.
- Film a combo in slow motion. It looks way cooler than real-time.
- Spin during video calls. See how long before someone asks about it.
- Try fingerpass combos โ the pen travels across all four fingers without stopping.
ADHD notes
Your hands stay busy while your brain does other things. It's a fidget with a skill tree โ each trick unlocks harder ones.
Fun fact
Competitive pen spinning exists. Spinners submit filmed combos that are judged on difficulty, execution, and creativity by international panels.
