Shadow boxing is practicing boxing combinations against the air, focusing on form, footwork, and flow. No equipment needed — just you and your imagination. It's a moving meditation that builds coordination, burns serious calories, and lets you choreograph your own fight sequences like an action movie director.
How to start
- 1Stand in front of a mirror to check your form — feet staggered, hands up, chin down
- 2Learn the basic punches: jab (1), cross (2), lead hook (3), rear hook (4)
- 3Practice the 1-2 combo (jab-cross) until it feels natural, then add head movement
- 4Move your feet: advance, retreat, pivot, and circle as you throw combos
- 5Set a round timer for 3-minute rounds with 1-minute rest

ADHD notes
Zero barrier to entry — you can do it right now, anywhere, with nothing. The visualization aspect fully engages the ADHD imagination.
Fun fact
Muhammad Ali would shadow box for up to 30 minutes straight. He said it was where he developed his famous footwork and invented new combinations.
